The man accused of delivering a blow that later killed a 22-year-old on the Gold Coast has been committed to stand trial. Austin Lewis Blaney Ballard faced Southport Magistrates Court this week, charged with unlawful striking causing death.

Police allege Mr Ballard kicked Cameron Duce in the early hours of September 22, 2024, near the Burleigh Heads nightlife precinct. Mr Duce suffered severe head injuries and died a week later in hospital. At a committal hearing today, Mr Ballard's defence lawyer conceded there was sufficient evidence for the matter to proceed to trial.
