Faux fur carpets might be one of my favourite home décor pieces. They add so much warmth and cosiness to a room, especially in the cooler months, and they just look so stylish—whether draped over a chair or spread out across the floor. But when it comes to cleaning and maintaining them, I have learned it's not as simple as running a vacuum over them like you would with regular carpets.
I found this out the hard way when I was getting ready for a rental inspection at the end of my lease in Helensvale. I had a beautiful faux fur rug in my bedroom that had seen its fair share of foot traffic, pet naps and probably a coffee spill or two. It looked matted and tired, and I knew that if I didn't clean it properly, it might raise some eyebrows during the final walkthrough.
The first thing I did was give it a good shake outside. It's amazing how much loose dust, crumbs and hair come out when you just give the rug a solid shake in the fresh air. After that, I used a handheld vacuum on the lowest suction setting with a soft brush attachment. With faux fur, you've got to be gentle—strong suction can damage the fibers or even pull them out entirely, leaving bald spots. I brushed in the direction of the fur to keep it fluffy and smooth.
For spots and stains, I used a mild detergent mixed with lukewarm water and dabbed the area with a soft cloth. No rubbing, I just blotted it gently to lift the stain without spreading it. Faux fur doesn't handle water well, so I made sure not to drench it. Once the stain was gone, I dabbed again with a clean but damp cloth to rinse the soap out and let it air dry completely. Never use heat on faux fur—it can melt or distort the texture. After cleaning, I fluffed it up using a pet brush. This made such a difference in restoring the softness and volume. The whole process wasn't overly complicated, but it did take a bit of time and patience—which, to be honest, was in short supply during my move out week. That's when I decided to get some professional help for the rest of the cleaning. If you're in a time crunch like me and need help, you can check out the services of the Bond Cleaners in Gold Coast that I worked with.
I got in touch with the Gold Coast Bond Cleaning firm, which also serves Helensvale and they were incredibly helpful. They certainly lived up to their reputation for providing excellent end of lease cleaning, as I had heard. Their team handled the deep clean while I focused on packing and the final odds and ends. They worked efficiently, and the pricing was really reasonable—especially for the level of detail they put into it.
If you've got faux fur carpets or other delicate items and want to leave a good impression on your landlord, it's totally doable with some care. But if you're juggling a move and feeling overwhelmed, calling in the pros—like the team I used in Helensvale—is a smart move. They've got the experience, and honestly, having one less thing to worry about made all the difference.
