CBD Melbourne: Guptas back to Blighty

It’s strange days indeed for Australian-based British industrialist Sanjeev Gupta.

The billionaire was this week forced to bail out Swiss asset manager GAM, headed by one-time lieutenant Tim Haywood (until their close connection led to his suspension late last year), by repaying them debts to the tune of $1.06 billion.

Then there’s the issue of his relationship with wealthy Australian banker Lex Greensill, whose Greensill Capital outfit was not only organising choir practice at Buckingham Palace but organising financing for Gupta more exotic than the Marrakesh Express.

Now the Gupta clan is packing up at Georgian-style trophy home Barford in Sydney's genteel Bellevue Hill, the former home of Warwick Fairfax, which they've been renting from Hawaii-based property developer, Ian Joye.
