Pumpkin - the donkey with a personality

Visiting

Because we liked Pumpkin so much, we started visiting her on daily basis. It was for us pleasant and relaxing ride to see our new friend. We got used to it just like Pumpkin did, welcoming us every time with her loud bray.

We carried with us a treat for her because all what she had was a grass (hay only occasionally). She was a freebie, left on a grassy place all year round without a shelter. The worst place for a donkey you can possibly find with one thing that shouldn't be there at all and one completely missing. You can figure out what I mean...

We bought hay for Pumpkin in Eastern Sierra Feed local store on our way to see her, and we used for delivery our little Geo Metro hatchback. It was our "delivery truck". You can imagine that mess inside the car... But it was all OK because it was for Pumpkin whom we loved so much!

She din't have any shelter for rainy and snowy weather. She was usually standing every night under a tree that we called her shelter. It was raining on her twice; once from sky, and then dripping water from the tree. These wet days and nights later contributed to her sore fetlock joins, pneumonia, and premature death.

We have never missed a single day to visit Pumpkin, no matter how the weather was like. Rain or snow, we had to go. We knew she was waiting for us, and we couldn't disappoint her...
