The police say there is no sign of foul play in the fiery car crash that killed a crack investigative journalist whose 2010 magazine article helped bring down a top U.S. military commander in Afghanistan. The wreck stirred unsubstantiated conspiracy theories on the Internet suggesting that Hastings was the victim of government efforts to silence him, and that he may have been assassinated by private contractors involved in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
