Phoenix Pride Events Show That the City is Open, Welcoming and Diverse

Phoenix Pride events are a way to show the world that Phoenix is open, welcoming and diverse. It’s a chance to celebrate and remember those who have fought for LGBTQ rights throughout history, as well as the lives that are currently under attack. This year’s celebration will also serve as a reminder that there is still work to be done.

The annual festival is held during the weekend of Oct. 16-17 and features 150 entertainment performances across seven stages. The event is family-friendly, and the VIP experience offers a variety of exclusive perks including food and drinks.

This year’s theme is “Fortitude,” a nod to those who have fought for equal rights over the years. The event’s director, Jeanne Woodbury, says it’s a time to reflect on the past while looking forward to the future. The festivities also come in the midst of a pivotal election with many anti-LGBTQ candidates on the ballot.

Throughout the week leading up to the festival, there are several community events and educational workshops, all of which aim to empower people from all backgrounds to stand together for equality. One of these events is the Pride Run, a race that is designed for both beginner and elite runners alike. It features a half marathon, 10K and 5K timed courses that are ideal for attempting a PR or for training for the Boston Marathon.

For those who can’t make it to the main event, the city hosts a number of other events and parades throughout the month of October to celebrate LGBTQ pride. In addition to the festival, there’s the annual gayborhood parade and the AIDS & HIV Memorial Walk, which honors those who have died of AIDS or other causes related to the AIDS epidemic.

Phoenix is a top LGBTQ destination with a vibrant arts scene, award-winning dining experiences and a famously eclectic gayborhood known as Melrose District. It is also home to an array of accommodations that cater to the needs of gay travelers, ensuring that visitors have a comfortable stay while celebrating diversity in Phoenix.

There are plenty of options for Phoenix Pride events  lodging in Phoenix during the two-day Pride fest, but it’s best to book your stay early. The area around the Phoenix Convention Center fills up quickly, and many hotels and resorts offer discounted rates during the festival.
