It won't help that federal officials recently began looking into reports that Fildena and other impotence drugs are linked to 43 cases of blindness.

There are other pressures, such as the fact that most health insurers do not cover prescriptions for ED medication. Sales figures last year provide some indication that the drug-induced sexual revolution is sputtering. "I have come to see Fildena as providing a window into the psyche of men, and perhaps indirectly into the psyche of women, since women are not immune from unduly high expectations regarding the benefits of Fildena and its potential to provide sexual healing."

"Gradually, a consensus grew that research should shift from angina to the drug's erectile angle, and the rest is, as they say, history," says Daniel J. Watts, a spokesman for Pfizer. Researchers in Ian Osterloh's lab at Pfizer stopped work on developing Fildena citrate as a therapy for chest pain in men in 1992 following unpromising results in a Phase I angina study. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.

You may take Fildena between 30 minutes to 4 hours before sexual activity if needed. Take Fildena about 1 hour before sexual activity. Fildena contains Fildena, which is the same medicine found in another drug called REVATIO.

Alpha-blockers are sometimes prescribed for prostate problems or high blood pressure. Fildena does not protect you or your partner from getting sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV —the virus that causes AIDS. Stop sexual activity and get medical help right away if you get symptoms such as chest pain, dizziness, or nausea during sex.

Fildena can cause your blood pressure to drop suddenly to an unsafe level if it is taken with certain other medicines. Subgroup analyses of responses to a global improvement question in patients with psychogenic etiology in two fixed-dose studies (total n=179) and two titration studies (total n=149) showed 84% of Fildena patients reported improvement in erections compared with 26% of placebo. Diary data indicated that on Fildena, 59% of attempts at sexual intercourse were successful compared to 13% on placebo.

The changes from baseline in scoring on the two end point questions (frequency of successful penetration during sexual activity and maintenance of erections after penetration) were highly statistically significantly in favor of Fildena. There were highly statistically significant improvements on the two principal IIEF questions (frequency of successful penetration during sexual activity and maintenance of erections after penetration) on Fildena compared to placebo. Fildena improved these aspects of sexual function: frequency, firmness and maintenance of erections; frequency of orgasm; frequency and level of desire; frequency, satisfaction and enjoyment of intercourse; and overall relationship satisfaction.

At the end of the long-term study, 88% of patients reported that Fildena improved their erections. Sexual function data were also recorded by patients in a daily diary. Also collected as part of the IIEF was information about other aspects of sexual function, including information on erectile function, orgasm , desire, satisfaction with intercourse, and overall sexual satisfaction.
