Half A Life Time

Half A Life Time

This is my new webpage for my memoir/semi-autobiography book. The summary of my book has been posted here:

Summary
I was born on July 14 1964, in Los Angeles. The hospital was called 'General Hospital'. For the first few years of my life, my parents and I lived in Rosemead, Ca. in a three bedroom home. My dad’s mom (my grandmother) lived behind us in another house located on the same property. Most of the homes in the neighborhood had one house in the front yard and a guesthouse in the back. My parents moved to Santa Ana, Ca, in 1967, where they purchased a two bedroom home.

I can still remember our address, 502 S. Popular St. Our small two bedroom home was my parents’ dream house. My dad paid $14,000 for the house. In those days that was considered middle class money. In the 60’s the neighborhood was clean and had not yet been invaded by lower income people. In 1969, my little brother, Ruben Hernandez J.R was born. That same year, I started my first year in kindergarten. It was the month of June 1976 when moved. The neighborhood was getting bad and my parents decided it was time to move.

We moved into a brand new two story house across Warner St. in Santa Ana. That area was very different then our old neighborhood. We lived in a lower income area before but when we moved we moved to a much higher income area. All the homes in that area were new and the schools were cleaner. I hate to say this but most of the kids were Caucasian that attend the new schools. The neighborhood was much better, well kept. Our two story house was not far from the South Coast Plaza. My brother and I had our own rooms and we enjoyed our privacy. I had the room with the windows facing the street. My brother fared better when it came to friends. I was a bit antisocial in my preteens.I went to Jefferson Elementary for one year, completing the fifth grade there before moving to McFadden Intermediate School. It was there that I made friends with other girls that were like me.

The years at McFadden were better then the high school years. I won’t go into details about my school years in this summary. The first few pages of my book goes into more detail about my school years and the years that I lived in 502 S. Popular St.Throughout the mid 80’s I was curious about relationships between men and women. I was eighteen and wanted to experience my first kiss and have sex for the first time. When I was 21 in 1986 my curiosity was fulfilled--but not in the way I thought it would turn out. In February 1986 I met Dan Naples who was ten years older then me. He was 31.

He was taking the same class I was at Rancho Santiago College in Santa Ana. The class was geology. I didn’t have to take that class, but I chose it as an elective. It was an evening class. When I first met Dan it was love at first sight-for me. He had deep blue eyes, brown hair, tall maybe 5’9’ or 5'10' and was athletically built. At the time he kind of looked a little like Conner Trinneer, from 'Star Trek Enterprise'. That's the best way to describe him.

It wasn’t a fairytale relationship. Actually, it only lasted two months. After the loss of that relationship I never could get over my first lover. Not even my first big crush/infatuation I had in High school with a boy named Alex Ramero, compared to the love I felt for Dan. Even though I dated men that satisfied me I just couldn't forget Dan Naples. During the 1990’s, I married and had three beautiful boys. I let go of the torch I had for my first lover and moved on. I began writing my journals in 1978 but I started writing my memoir/semi-autobiography book in 2004. Looking through my journals I noticed that the first few journals from 1978-1981 are a bit sketchy. I was young and didn’t pay too much attention to how much details I gave in my journals.

I added a few things that I failed to write down at the time, so I filled in the blanks in this book. Most of the blanks that were filled in were very minor details regarding my relationship with my parents, my brother and other people that I knew. After 1982 I began writing my journals in a more detailed manner about people and events that occurred during those years. Everything written in my memoir book is based on fact. I would like to mention that names of people and places were never changed but on occassion I might mention last names of certain people--only if I did write their last name down in my journal.
In the early 80's most of my journals contained very little entries because I wasn't working at the time and I didn't socialize much. In 1984 most of my journal of that year was about my brother and his rebelious teen life style. In 1985 I started working. My life changed. I met new people and I had more experiences to write about.

In my memoir/semi-autobiography I will write down the most interesting and important events of those years, 1978 to whatever year I choose to stop writing. I won't write down every single entry because some of the entries were short and meaningless. I used the internet to gather pictures of places I’ve been, since some pictures were Polaroids from the 70’s and they were too old and worn to scan.

The pictures that I did manage to scan into the computer, I used in this book. I start my memoir/semi-autobiography book with my journal from 1978. I was 14 years old, in seventh grade and in middle school. I had a few friends and I struggled like all the other girls with weight issues, self-esteem and popularity dilemmas. At the end of each year I wrote down the top hit songs of the year and what was on TV at the time.
MY Motto: Live life, be happy & fullfill your dreams not matter what age you are......

About the Author

I grew up in Orange County, California. I worked as a postal worker from 1986-1996. I’ve always wanted to write a book since I was 15. I am currently working on my memoir book. My memoir book consist of journal entries from 1978 thru whatever year I choose to end my memoir book. Names of places & people have not been changed and will not be changed. I’ve taken a few selected journal entries from the journals of each year. I excluded short, meaningless journal entries from my memoir book. I will probably publish it within 5 to 10 years. I’ve written two fiction books: Chandra's Quest and In the Company of Elves. If interested please visit the websites for those books.

Q&A's

Will you mention men's names like Caliguy in your memoir book?

answer: No. I did not have a relationship with him. Nothing that lasted more then six months. Men that I had crushes on and meaningless flings with I won't bother mentioning them at all. Even though I may have written their names in my journals. Unless, of course, they changed my life in some way or another.

Will you write about people you know in your book of memoirs?
answer: Yes. You're not the first person to ask me. It will probably get printed in five to ten years. Depending on how long it takes the editor to edit my work. The years I'm writing are from 1978 thru whatever year I choose to stop.

When will you publish your memoir/semi-autobiography?

answer: In 10 years.

Will you be publishing any books this year?

answer: Yes. In The Company of Elves

I've been to your Webshots albums. Will the pictures be in your book?

answer: not all of them.

I don't know if you remember me but I remember you from 9th grade. Will you write about me?

answer: FYI: I don't remember you but if your name is in my journal for that year then I probably will mention your name.

Are you going to write about the relationships you had with men?
answer: I will write down whatever I choose to put in my memoir book.

What will you do with your journals?
answer: After I have written the entries that I want into my memoir book I will destroy them. I'm only picking out the longer and more meaningful entries.
Not the short & meaningless entries like:
"Today was very boring. I did the dishes and went for a walk and watched TV."

Why did you decide to write a 'Tell All' book?

answer: It's not a tell all book. I wanted to write my memoir book now instead of later.

Is there a reason that you are writing your memoir book now?
answer: No reason at all.

Do you think anyone will buy your book?
answer: That's up to people.
